The Play's the Thing
by Amy Davis

The Godmother  - this year’s district musical - is a Cinderella story from the perspective of an over-ambitious fairy godmother-in-training.  Set in present day New York City's "Little Italy", this tale focuses on the Donizetti sisters and the hilarity that ensues as they encounter a little magic and a lot of mayhem (be careful what you wish for)!

The Godmother will be presented in the Basin Elementary gymnasium Friday, March 16th, at 7:30 P.M. and Saturday, March 17th, at 4:00 P.M. and 7:30 P.M.  Tickets are $3 for one performance or $5 for two performances.  All proceeds will be donated to Eugene Sanders and his family.

8th Grade Iditarod Project
by Mary Ellen McMurtrie

The eighth graders have each voted for their favorite to win the 2012 Iditarod. They have been researching the race and the mushers in preparation for reading Jack London’s The Call of the Wild. Hopefully there will be enough snow to have a snow sculpture activity before spring break. They will be writing adventure stories, so they may be asking for ideas.

March Pizza Fundraiser

The pizza fundraiser this month is being sponsored jointly by the third grade and the Art Department. If you are interested in ordering a pizza and have not been contacted by one of the students, you can get a copy of the order form from the Forms page of the district website: www.idahocityschools.net

Either school office will also accept orders. Another option would be to contact either Julie Randolph (392-6631) or Krystal Murphy (392-4183).

Inservice This Friday – No School

Reminder: This Friday is a teacher inservice day and students will not be in school.

Senior Job Shadow
By Mary Ellen McMurtrie

The seniors spent a day on the job last month. They contacted and arranged to job shadow someone who is working in a field that interests them. The papers they wrote detailing their experiences show that it was time well spent out in the real world.

Formal Concert at St. Joe’s

On Tuesday, March 20th at 7:00 in the evening, the ICHS Music Department will be putting on a formal concert at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church here in Idaho City. The concert will feature a guitarist, a pianist, wind instruments and a choir. There is no admission fee to the event and everybody is welcome. Come enjoy an evening of music in one of Idaho City’s historic landmarks!

Senior Project Open House
by Mary Ellen McMurtrie

Everyone is invited to view the Senior Projects during the Open House on April 17 at the high school. There are some very unique projects this year. They are currently working hard to meet the March 13th deadline for the research component of their projects.

SAT/ACT/ACCUPLACER INFO
by Berta Huffman

All juniors must take one of the college entrance exams (SAT, ACT, or the ACCUPLACER) by the end of their junior year. The Idaho State Department of Education has developed a partnership with College Board which allows us to offer the SAT and the ACCUPLACER to our juniors, free of charge.  Both of these tests will be proctored in April at ICHS. The SAT is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18; dates for the ACCUPLACER are yet to be determined.  The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) should be taken by those juniors who will be going on to a professional school (University, College or Junior College). The SAT includes subtests in Reading/Language, Math, and Writing.  Students planning to

attend a technical school after graduation should take the ACCUPLACER. The ACCUPLACER subtests include computer-adaptive tests in reading, writing, and math.  More information on these two tests will be forthcoming. College bound students can still take, and are encouraged to take, the ACT; information is available in the office.  Although the state is not paying for the ACT, there are fee waivers available for those who qualify.

Spring Break

It’s almost that time again – believe it or not. This year, students will be out from Friday, March 23rd through Sunday, April 1st. I hope everyone has a great break and we all look forward to seeing students back at school on Monday, April 2nd!
